Video - Reefs on the EDGE

In collaboration with Earth-Touch and Globe International, the Zoological Society of London and EDGE produced a short film to raise awareness of the threat of climate change to the world. The film is set in 2065 in a world where coral reefs have become functionally extinct and is narrated by a 15 year old girl who tells her grandfather's stories of coral reefs and their demise. The stories speak of a future that could have been prevented if humans had taken action to save coral reefs in 2010.

The film was first shown at the United Nations Conference of the Parties in Copenhagen (COP15) in 2009 where policy makers were implored to make a commitment to reducing carbon emissions to below 350ppm. This commitment is yet to be made and the future of the world's coral reefs remains uncertain.

The powerful message of the film is that urgent action is required now to prevent the events depicted in the film becoming a reality.

This film could not have been made without the help of Earth-Touch.
