Chinese giant salamander conservation: engagement and questionnaires survey in Xi’an
This August we held a Chinese Giant Salamander event in Xi’an this was to raise publicity for the species as well as carry out questionnaires with local participants. As we know, a lot of money is spent by governments on large mammal conservation – such as the giant panda – but there is a lack of attention to the protection of amphibians. Therefore, it is very important to improve the government and public’s attention.
We have gave a report about CGS conservation during the Shaanxi provincial fisher breeding training and management conference, all of those present at the meeting were from the directory of fishery office of City and Count.
We did the same report and questionnaires survey in Shaanxi Normal University with the Education majors—they will become high-school biology teachers and go to various parts of China.
Hopefully, most of them are very interested in our report and active in our questionnaires. However, it is regrettable that the findings of the survey show that people know very little about amphibian conservation. A key aspect of the Chinese giant salamander project is to raise awareness and improve the conservation of this unique species.
