Gabby Wild Does it for the Giant Salamander

Over the past month of May, Gabby Wild has been a busy bee. In conjunction with EDGE she launched her campaign to save the Chinese giant salamander, which is critically endangered and the largest living amphibian. The dress she is wearing represents the salamander and was designed by eco-friendly fashion designer Luis Valenzuela, who made a point to incorporate recycled plastic decorations with the dress as well as traditional glamour features such as Swarovski crystals.

This is a part of her year-long project called ’12 in 12 for 12’ to spread awareness of twelve selected endangered species, and the donations raised will be split between EDGE and three other charities. Each month a different designer helps her create a unique ‘green’ garment, which she wears for the whole four weeks just to show how passionate she is about her cause.

Gabby and Luis have promoted salamander conservation at various events such as New York Fashion Week’s ‘The Green Shows’ at the Lincoln Centre, Fashion Fights Poverty in Washington DC, Earth Day Miami and Sustainotopia, where Gabby was given a ‘Hero of the Revolution’ award.

Maintaining a strong presence on social media like Facebook and Twitter, she has gone from strength to strength in her campaigns and has had immense global media coverage as a result of her hard work.

Gabby is definitely one of EDGE’s star ‘Champions’ for unusual and globally endangered creatures.
