Hopefully we will be going back to Escudo Island in September or October to collect more data on the pygmy sloth population, as well as begin thorough socio-economic surveys and initiatives to try and establish sustainable livelihoods for the people who live near and on the island.
This would involve stopping the degradation of red mangrove patches where the sloths live, instead promoting the use of alternative resources in the fishing communities.
By doing these actions and more we aim to reverse the decline of the pygmy sloth population and make sure they hang around for future generations to see. Although this species is on the EDGE, we are sure that your contributions have helped to preserve its future and that we will achieve a real conservation success that will be talked about for years to come.

Even though this campaign is closed, you can still donate to the EDGE programme to help other endangered animals in need…
THANK YOU EVERYONE!
